What’s new in Autodesk Inventor 2017?

Are you looking for what’s new in Autodesk Inventor 2017?

My colleges and I at Graitec UK have put together a whole series of posts to detail each new feature in Autodesk Inventor 2017. Each post comes with a video and an explanation of the new feature.

Check out the links below, and let me know what you think of Inventor’s new features in the comments!

What’s new in Autodesk Inventor 2017 – Overview

Whats new in Autodesk Inventor 2017

Gary Edwards gives us a high level executive overview of the new features in 2017.

Including imporvements to, 3D sketching, surface patches, patterning, sheet metal, tube and pipe, AnyCAD and presentations.

3D PDF Export in Inventor – What’s New Inventor 2017

3D PDF Exported from Autodesk Inventor

Stuart Smith guides us through one of the most long awaited features in Autodesk Inventor – 3D PDF export! (Awesome!).

Shape Generator – What’s New Inventor 2017

Autodesk Inventor Shape Generator

This post, also by Stuart Smith, highlights one of Inventor’s most exciting new features – the ability to optimise designs for weight and strength algorithmically.

Connected Design – What’s New Inventor 2017

Connected design in Autodesk Inventor 2017

Dave Bartram gives us this excellent walk through of Autodesk Inventor 2017’s new connected design feature.

This gives us the ability to ‘push’ a light weight version of our 3D design up into the cloud where a link can be shared with your design team or clients for review.

The design is lightweight, so no IP shared on the cloud, and the link is private. The cloud viewer is completely browser based, so the end user doesn’t have to have CAD software of any sort to see your model.

Exploded Views and Presentation – What’s New Inventor 2017

Exploded Presentation Views in Autodesk Inventor 2017

In possibly the biggest change to Autodesk Inventor in years, the presentation environment has received a massive overhaul. In fact, it has been lifted lock stock and barrel from Autodesk Inventor Publisher!

Dave Bartram takes us through the details.

Autodesk Inventor 2017 What’s New? Mesh Support!

Autodesk Inventor 2017 Mesh Support

In an effort to improve compatibility with Mesh based models, Autodesk Inventor 2017 includes improved mesh support.

Import mesh based models into Inventor, then constrain them into position – or use the new mesh to surface conversion tools to build Brep parts based on your mesh surfaces (I wrote this one!).

Autodesk Inventor 2017 What’s New? AnyCAD!

Autodesk Inventor 2017 AnyCAD

Autodesk Inventor sees improvements made to ‘AnyCAD’ a feature included in Autodesk Inventor 2016 which allows CAD files from Solidworks, Creo, Catia, Seimens NX Etc. to be ‘linked’ (rather than converted) into your Inventor models.

AnyCAD also includes some pretty cool tools for linking 2D AutoCAD files into Inventor as well. (I wrote this post too!).

Conclusion

So – what do you think?

  • Are you happy with the level of development in Autodesk Inventor this year?
  • Do you think Autodesk chose to develop the right things?
  • Is there any features in Autodesk Inventor that you feel are being neglected?
  • Is there a feature that Autodesk Inventor doesn’t have that you feel is missing?

I have installed 2017 and played with it, but have not had the chance to really get into it as I would like too.
    Maybe someday soon.
