The Official Autodesk Inventor Podcast. Exchanging DWG files between AutoCAD and Inventor.

Off

Do you use AutoCAD, but would like to move to a more advanced 3D modelling work flow? Are you worried about exchanging files between AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor?

One of the reasons that I recommend Autodesk Inventor to drafters in the UK Building and construction industry, is that it plays pretty nicely with AutoCAD.

Most of you will be using AutoCAD already, and you may have built up quite a lot of legacy drawings that you want to re-use. The nice thing about Autodesk Inventor, is that it creates DWG files.

Effectively, it is possible to have AutoCAD 2D drawings and Inventor 3D model views combined on one sheet. It is also possible to import 2D AutoCAD drawings into Inventor for you to base your 3D models on.

You can even export your Inventor drawing views back into AutoCAD so that you can share the 2D Data.

But don’t take my word for it. Check out Garin Gardiner’s  great article on using 2D and 3D DWG data natively inside Autodesk Inventor, from his ‘In the machine’ Blog.
